T O P I C R E V I E WheavenlyheraI am double majoring in Psychology/Philosophy and minoring in Religious Studies. I am enrolled in the peace corps and when I finish my Bachelors. I plan to go overseas and enroll in their Masters program abroad and then come back and enroll in a combined Ph.D./M.D. program here at UF when I finish off my Masters. This has been my plan since I first fell in love with Psychology at 14 years old. Now when I say I LOVE Psychology. I mean, I REALLY LOVE Psychology. It's my first love and I think I would go through a divorce if a guy threaten to get in the way of my Psychology Studies. lol It's really that serious to me. But there is a problem, there is something else I love that much. Fashion Design. (Designing clothing, Sewing, ect.) I know it's two extremes. But when I ask myself, where do I see myself and would I be happy? I keep getting this feeling in my gut I should look into Fashion Design. This gut feeling has been right pretty much 110% of the time in the past with me. Thing is, I've invested so much in my Psychology and I have a really really bad home life. But I keep my head up and tell people to move out of my way. My family members (mainly males) have always trashed me and made me feel I couldn't do anything or I wasn't smart enough. But I am in college at Florida right now and I am in their honours program for my grades. So I will not let my childhood/family life EVER get in my way. I am not an angry person. I am very optimistic and cheerful. But I don't have time for BS. Which is why I need to know if I am making the right career decision. I have an intense love for design. I make my own jewelry and clothing items and I've had people ask me for a business card. I've done sketches of idea dress patterns which a few weeks later, I'll see on a runway from a major label designer who "accidentally" bumped into the idea. I feel like I love my stability in Psychology and I am very passionate about it. But I feel like in my gut that Fashion Design is where I should be. I felt like it might be best to post my chart and get some insight into this. I've done design stuff with my grandmother who taught me to sew. Who is also a seamstress, so I know this is a realistic possibility for me in regards to career. It's just I love stability and the fashion industry is full of uncertainty. I am just trying to weigh things out before I jump. BanxManxWhy don't you become a psychologist who equates psychological problems with the clothes that they wear. This way you could make them believe that their problems lie in what they choose to wear and that way you could help them by giving them a makeover and explaining that this will resonate with their mental stability. For example,A patient walks in and lays on the couch. She starts sobbing about how her man cannot communicate with her and the girls at work are just too bossy THAT's when you interrupt and say, "Excuse me but are those pants grey"? At first she will be confused and respond with What to which you reply, "You see those grey pants are actually dampening your mood, what you need is fuchsia and this will help alleviate some of the psychological discrepancies. She will not understand but it will work if you say it in an authoritative manner. You could brighten up the world and solve psychological problems both at the same time. heavenlyhera quote:Originally posted by BanxManx:Why don't you become a psychologist who equates psychological problems with the clothes that they wear. Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.. Next time, don't write a paragraph wasting my time if it's actually nothing useful. It's actually a pretty low blow. Considering, we're on an astrological forum. A forum that discusses the existence of anything mystical/paranormal or how the stars play in your life. I don't think my question on if I am choosing the right career path between an art field or a medical field renders as stupid in this case. And if you think design is simply picking out colours then you are obviously very ill educated in the arts department. Design involves being able to artistically put ideas on to paper and then being able to bring it out of the sketchbook and in to the real world. It requires a lot of patience and focus. It's not easy. And coming from a psychological point of view it seems like you get your self-esteem fix from taking cheap shots at people in an astrological group online. Which is actually kind of pathetic and it speaks volumes about you and your life. BanxManxWhoa, you got me all wrong here. I was actually being serious. It could be a new form of therapy. Relax, people that know me here, know that I like to help out. roadwarriorsdpIf anything I would chose one or the other. A scorpio midheavan means that your career should be focused. A change in career would me the death of the old career, which literally just means getting rid of what doesn't work and what does work....so I think Bam was on to something when he said or madea joke regarding combining the two, I think it's teh only way for you to go....now if you had aquarius on the midheavan it would be a different story.mairaHera, why can't you do both for a while? Does it have to be one way or another? You could get a feel of the industry while pursuing your studies (doing sketches in weekends, getting to meet people involved in fashion, etc).If it's got to be one or the other, I don't have an astrological answer, but I do have one, based on experience : always listen to your gut feeling Best of luck to you!VenusDiSiriusCappy mercury, aqua venus... It forms good material for someone who would make fine clothes -YSL style actually,i did the same trasition from my schooling to fashion career, but my education is still artistic,so i suppose its less stressing, all that choice...If u like it,just do it!! U r scorpio mars, for stars sake!! heart's true desires are worth any risk! Btw,fashion ist unstabile, its very competitive, hard and exciting!! And with 10th H mars, any profession u choose is challenging. Karma ------------------Leo/Libra/Capricornamowls*I've had that dilemma. I actually decided to get my bachelor's in Advertising and then go to Parsons to get my associates in Fashion Marketing and then later get a masters in Fashion Studies Kind of backwards, but I know so many people who did just that.I want to be a buyer or a critic, not necessarily create the clothes, though.Your MC does suggest a career in psychology.taurus77For me go to design!!BanxManxSee! Everyone is suggesting that you do both. I told you. I mean, it isn't that hard to be a therapist and fashion designer both at the same time. With a therapist all you do is listen to peoples problems and then talk about how it stems from childhood and a bad relationship with their parents. And fashion designer, I mean, anyone can do that. So I would agree with everyone else here, do both. Problem solved.amowls*Uh, not everyone can be a fashion designer, just like not everyone can be an artist. Not only that, but it's not something that you just pick up and do. It takes a lot of hard work.MoonWitchI majored in Fashion Design. Tougher field to really excel in than psychology and you could end up just sewing someone else's designs.I guess it depends on how naturally talented you are! I would stick with psychology and maybe take some fashion classes on the side and see how it goes.Maybe I've gotten too practical in my life . I say all this not looking at your chart so my opinion is just that.TrueTaurusFashion design sounds like a risky path to take. You said you LOVE psychology. You know i'd stick with that...fashion design can be something you do on the side. Like during your breaks you can intern somewhere and design. Psychology sounds like a more secure path and if you change your mind after your bachelors/masters and decide to do fashion you know you have a degree to fall back on if that doesn't work out for you. However, the double major and minor sounds like major work load. Take it easy. BanxManxShe knows deep within what it is she wants to do. She has to dig and pull it out. heavenlyheraThanks for all the replies. I realised a minute ago though that I posted up the wrong birth chart out of my photobucket account. It was off by a couple of minutes because this one says Aquarius rising and I am actually Capricorn rising thats how I noticed. It changed a little in regards to houses in the chart but not much. I've considered doing both at the same time though. I've been asked for a business card for things I've made before from my customers at my part time job. So my mom is pretty supportive with the idea of me doing design and offered to help with the courses if I decided on it. I really like the idea of being able to creatively express myself. It's something that makes me happy. I've also considered starting out very small like designing some items and opening up a small online store. At least it would help with a little money since I have had customers ask about selling items I've made in the past. I have this extreme need to be in control of things and have everything in a really organised fashion. I love creativity and trying out my different ideas, it's just I also know that I like having things to fall back on. I have two bank accounts. Half of my paycheck goes into one and half in the other. In the event I need emergency money, it's available. Everything has to have a quick decision making back up plan. I think I will seriously consider doing both I may skip giving fashion advice to the young children in behavioral clinics though. My focus is in clinical therapy with children. These children range from being abuse victims to having Schizophrenia. So I think maybe having a creative outlet in my life would keep me positive too in a way. Because Child Psychology/Pediatric Psychiatry can be really heavy from what I've heard. I did some community service a while back in a hospital spending time with kids who were physically ill and that was really heavy on me. So I can only imagine working with kids/teens who have been victims of horrible abuse cases would be just as heavy. So I definitely would love to do something creative to channel all my energy in a better way. And seeing people interested in the things I make feels kind of good because it makes me feel like people enjoy my creative side. The side that makes me feel really happy when I am doing it too. So being able to share my creative pieces with them that I've put all my positive energy into and seeing them happy with it. Makes me really happy. Honestly, I wouldn't even want fame with design. I just want to be happy and creatively express all these artistic ideas I have running through my head 24/7. lolBut here is the right chart. Thanks again everyone for all the replies. You all have actually really helped with me weighing out options xx
